My Best Self
RBSE - Reflected Best Self Exercise with Bob
At Masters' Union, we recently did an exercise called RBSE – “Reflected Best Self Exercise”.
In the beginning, it felt like a task given the extensive curriculum at the school and that others had to write stories for you.
By now, I’ve realised the power of storytelling recently during the courses taught by extraordinary communication professors like Mihir Mankad, Abhishek Srivastava and Sandeep Kochhar.
The purpose of this activity was to become aware of your strengths, strengthen them, focus on them & showcase them better.
So, anyways I went ahead and asked many of my friends to write stories about me that reflect my best self and display my qualities & strengths. Kudos to University of Michigan - Stephen M. Ross School of Business for coming up with this tool and the team at Enliven for formulating this activity.
Then came along Bob, Director at EnlivenWork and our host. He has a contagious personality and aura. Upon meeting him, I knew this would be something different from what we’d ever done before.
Little did we know that this exercise would leave an impression on us forever.
The “Best Self Report” came in with all the stories which my beautiful friends, family, managers, and colleagues have written.
The stories were extraordinary, and there were instances I don’t even remember fully but had a significant impact on others’ lives. Heck, Vasu made a life mantra of something I spoke out of thin air. I am truly thankful and grateful for having such lovely people around me.
Another fascinating insight from the activity, i.e., the quality, which I thought was one of my weaknesses, came up as one of my strengths multiple times with instances to support it. Still, I was not ready to accept it.
Bob - with this activity made me realise my authentic best self. Huge thanks to Bob & the team for this eye-opening event.
Thankyou, Richa & team, for working hard and making this happen despite many challenges. The work you do is truly commendable.
Finally, I would like to take a moment and appreciate the ones who wrote stories for me; it was a beautiful feeling. Thank you for handing me these lollipops.
